Artist of the Issue: Vedant Aryan

Aryan ended up acting in his first Hopkins production, Killing Time, by happenstance. After tearing his meniscus, Aryan decided to do Killing Time as he “recovered from [his] surgery...instead of playing a sport since [he] wouldn’t be physically ready.” This decision to participate in HDA led Aryan to become an active member of the Hopkins arts community. He states that this was the “highlight of [his] freshman year.” His career blossomed from there: “I’ve acted in more musicals, one-act shows and plays. Last year, I was the dance captain for Mamma Mia in addition to my role as Pepper. My duty as dance captain involved me helping out the choreographer by going over dances with other students, so it was really fun bringing more of dance to HDA.”


Aryan explained that art is “intrinsically a social practice. By viewing and creating art, I feel more connected to myself and other artists.” Through artistic outlets, he forms friendships and relationships with people who have the same interests as him.
