Maroon and (Donasia) Gray To Be Stuco President

As the school year comes to a close, the Hopkins student body has elected its Student Council President, Donasia Gray, for its 358th year. Gray is an active member of the Junior Class, girls softball and squash teams, and Hopkins Drama Association.

According to Gray, her main goal as StuCo President is to contribute “to the general happiness of the community by reducing stress in regards to all aspects of student life.” She intends to accomplish this by working closely with the Administration and the student body to use their feedback to make larger scale ideas a reality. Overall, she has said that her plan is to be an accessible president by reinstating the StuCo Website to create a more involved student body and to better “advertise upcoming events, so individuals can help plan them and attend the biweekly Thursday StuCo meetings concerning projects they’re passionate about.”

Another Hopkins tradition Gray wishes to revive is the presence of the goat at school events to serve as a “rallying point for the community and alumni.” She also hopes to improve current traditions on The Hill such as the Canned Food Drive by making it an opportunity “to connect with our community and to help out of compassion.” She has said she plans to do this by expanding the kickoff Assembly and putting more emphasis on school-wide events.

In addition to improving and reviving our existing traditions, Gray envisions creating new ones. These include upperclassmen writing letters of advice to the grade below, inviting another school to the Yule Ball, and investing in games such as spike ball and outdoor volleyball. Although Gray is focused on looking to the future, she draws inspiration from the presidency of Phil Ross. “The Ross Era has been one to aspire to,” said Gray. “Phil has been an excellent president and managed to find the perfect balance between leadership, responsibility, listening, and fun.”
