Claire Yin: Terrific Third Baseman

Claire Yin ’16 first began playing softball in elementary school, but took a hiatus from softball in middle school.  It wasn’t until ninth grade when Yin made her return to the softball field.
As a captain and leader, Yin maintains a fun atmosphere off the field, but also works hard. Jessica D’Errico ’18 said, “Claire is an outstanding captain. She always plays to the best of her ability and supports the team during every game and practice. Claire is a great teammate and I’m going to miss her so much next year.”   Cecelia Giamo ’17 said, “Claire is a great leader because she takes it very seriously but at the same time she easily gets along with all of the players on the team.”  Head Coach Cindy Chase said, “Claire is a three-sport athlete who leads by example both on and off the field.”

Yin strives to achieve great team spirit and chemistry.  Zander Blitzer ’18 said, “Claire is an amazing leader of the team.  She’s an awesome player on the field, and always inspires us to play our best.  She has a ton of team spirit and I couldn’t imagine the team without her leadership this season.”  Yin said, “I have learned how important it is that a team gets along. Softball requires a lot of motivation. When your teammate is staring down a pitcher, a runner is trying to steal second, the team cheers for them. The cheers and the screams of encouragement are just as important as the play itself.”   

Yin has high hopes for this year’s team. Yin said, “It has been a long time since Hopkins softball was last in the FAA tournament. It would be amazing if we could make it to the FAA’s this year.”  Yin also discussed her history of injuries and said, “I actually won the superlative for “Most Accident Prone.” Most of my injuries can be attributed to sports. So, although you might think it a joke, one of my goals is to genuinely not get hurt. I would also like to hit a grand slam. I think that would be a good way to end my Hopkins career.”
