Jesmyn Ward's Visit to Hopkins

Jesmyn Ward, two-time National Book Award Winner, will visit Hopkins on Friday,, September 12, 2025. After speaking at assembly, Ward will hold two sessions for Hopkins students and host an evening event open to the public.
To prepare for the visit, students in grades 10-12 read her novel Sing, Unburied, Sing, winner of the 2017 National Book Award, as part of their summer reading. Students in grades 7-9 read Navigate Your Stars with their English classes.
In addition to these works, Ward wrote Salvage the Bones, winner of the 2011 National Book Award; Let Us Descend, an Oprah’s Book Club Pick; Where the Line Bleeds; and a memoir, Men We Reaped. Ward also edited the anthology The Fire This Time and wrote in the anthology Fight of the Century. Ward teaches creative writing at Tulane University, where she is a Professor of English and Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities.
