Thomas Rosiello: Tenacious Tenniser

At the young age of seven, Thomas Rosiello ’16 picked up a tennis racquet for the first time. Rosiello began to take tennis seriously when he started middle school, after he and fellow Hopkins senior Billy McGrath ’16 won the Aspatuck Junior 13 and Under Doubles Tournament. 
In his freshman year at Hopkins, Rosiello made the Varsity team and has been a heavy contributor to the team’s success throughout all four years.

While Rosiello’s tennis ability is unquestioned and unmatched by many, he is also an incredible leader. Fellow captain Zach Blitzer ’16 said, “Rosiello is a great teammate and role model for all the boys on and off the court.  I’m honored to be a captain alongside him.” 

Teammate Zev Rosen ’17 said, “He is unbelievably into the team even when not playing, and has a lot of enthusiasm on and off the court.”  Peter Neugebauer ’17 described Rosiello as “the center of the team’s camaraderie.”

Rosiello is very focused on building great team chemistry. Teammate Michael Bass ’16 said, “When I began playing varsity tennis as a junior, Rosiello and I didn’t know each other very well, but he immediately welcomed me as part of the family.” 
 
Head coach Bryan Adinolfi said, “Thomas leads by example. He truly approaches tennis at Hopkins as a team sport. It is an individual sport outside of Hopkins, but he instinctively understands what we are striving for here. “Team” is all he knows and we are lucky to have him. His enthusiasm and positivity is infectious.”

When asked why he strives to achieve team spirit and chemistry, Rosiello said, “Tennis is usually looked at as an individual sport, but this team strives to be much more than that.” 
In describing what motivates him to want to be a leader on the team, Rosiello said, “It comes from captains and leaders before me who really emphasized the importance of team chemistry.  This year we have a great group of guys who deserve a leader like that.”

Rosiello’s individual goals for this year include winning the FAA tournament for doubles and playing number one doubles for Hopkins throughout the year. Rosiello also said, “Our obvious goal is to win New Englands as a team.  We came up short last year and that hurt, but this year I think things will be different.” 

Regarding his future, Rosiello said, “I’m not sure where I’m going to college yet, but I would love to play for the team. Tennis is a sport I will hope to play throughout the rest of my life.”
