Katie Malison: Sharp Shooter

Malison shows talent and hard work on the court. “Katie is a really talented player and she is always the first one down the court. She never stops hustling and she inspires everyone else to do the same,” said Galen Smith ’18. Avery MacMullen ’16 said, “Katie is an amazing athlete and a great addition to every team she plays for.”

Malison leads by example. Sam Phelan ’18 said, “We couldn’t ask for a better leader. I learn so much from watching her play and admire her dedication and love for the game! Thank you Katie!”

Malison works seamlessly not only with her teammates, but also with the new basketball coaches, Elizabeth Roemmele and Casey Blake. “She works well with teammates and coaches, even without being the loudest and most outgoing member of the team,” said MacMullen. Malison said, “The new coaches are great. They like to work us hard and it is good! We are definitely getting in shape.”

Last year, the Girls Varsity Basketball Team made it to the quarter-fnals of the FAA Tournament. This year, they hope to take it a step further and bring an FAA Championship trophy to Hopkins.

When asked about the team, Malison explained that there are many returners. “We only lost three seniors so we have a lot of experienced returners. The team looks really good but we haven’t had a lot of time yet to play together,” she said.

Malison is just as driven and friendly on the basketball court. Teammate Galen Smith ’18 said, “On the court Katie is a great person who treats everyone with a genuine kindness. I’m glad to call her my friend!” Sam Dies ’18 said, “Katie takes a strong leadership role both on and on the court and is very supportive of us in all walks of life.”

Malison hopes to continue playing basketball in college. She said, “I don’t plan on playing at the varsity level in college, but I plan to pick my school and then try out for club or intramural.”
