Sergio Lopez

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Bogotá, Colombia and moved to the United States in 2018.

What is your academic background?
I studied Philosophy in the Universidad de los Andes, and I am currently on  a Master’s program in Spanish Language and Culture from the Universidad de Salamanca.

What will you be teaching/coaching/advising/etc. this year?
I’ll be teaching Spanish 4, 5 and 6. In addition to that, I’ll be working with the Office of Equity and Community, and I’ll advise the Debate Club.

What are your hobbies/what things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like riding my motorcycle, if the weather allows it, and, if not, I could be practicing playing the guitar. I also enjoy video games on my Xbox Series X.

What is your favorite book/movie/series/performance and why?
I’ll focus on one of my favorite movies of this year: Everything Everywhere All at Once. The movie has two strong women of color in the lead roles, and the way the movie develops is so compelling. I enjoyed it so much that I went to see it in theaters three different times (and, honestly, I would watch it again any time!).

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them!
Yes!!! I have a six-year-old Siberian Husky called Spice. He’s really sweet with humans, but not so good with other dogs. He loves to do tricks and, particularly, to give his paw (always looking for the next innocent person who will give him another treat).
