Alvaro Cerqueira

Where did you grow up?
I spent the first six years of my life in Minas Gerais, Brazil and then moved to Medford, Massachusetts, which is where I consider home.

What is your academic background?
I studied Spanish and Education Studies at Middlebury College, participating in the Middlebury Language Schools for a summer and completing my student teaching at Addison Central School District.

What will you be teaching/coaching/advising this year?
This year, I am excited to be teaching Spanish 1A, and I will be involved with Junior School wrestling as assistant coach!

What are your hobbies/what things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love to try different restaurants (I might have a low-key passion for Yelp!). I’ve also recently gotten into gardening and hope to get involved in the local community garden.

What is your favorite book/movie/series/performance and why?
My favorite TV series is La Casa de Papel (Money Heist). The show is action packed, brings up many questions of morality, has numerous plot twists, and is a lot of fun.

If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
If I had to, it would probably be rice and beans. I grew up eating it and if I haven’t gotten sick of it by now, I probably never will!
