@OurSchoolStyle New on Instagram

Emmett Dowd ’21
Follow @ourschoolstyle on Instagram for many fashionable pictures of your classmates to see what clothes and styles are featured! The account includes pictures of many Hop students wearing different kinds of clothing and outfts.
The two creators of the account, seniors Liana Tilton ’19 and Gigi Fulginiti ’19, had a specifc reason and message behind the creation of @ourschoolstyle. “We believe that fashion is an important element of everyday life. It represents identity, individuality, creativity, and confdence. Through fashion, people can showcase their thoughts, emotions, and beliefs in a silent yet loud way. Our opinion with respect to the importance of fashion was what inspired us to create ‘Our School Style.’ We wanted to put the spotlight on students and focus on how they utilize style in order to convey their own messages on a day-to-day basis.”

Alexis Chang ’21 commented further on the account, stating, “I enjoy seeing so many different styles and clothing dis- played at Hopkins. It’s super interesting to see an emphasis on fashion at Hopkins because I feel like it’s rarely talked about, and it should be discussed more!”

Julia An ’21 said she usually has her clothes already put together and does not take too much time planning her outfts. “I do put some thought into my outfts, though for most of my clothes I know what I like pairing them with or what can match with what, so it doesn’t take that long. I think what takes longer is deciding if I like how an outft looks or not.”

Sometimes, style and clothing can be viewed as another step to one’s morning routine. But how would people feel if they never got to choose what they wore because of a school uniform? An suggests “I prefer choosing my clothes instead of a school uniform because even though a uniform would require less time, picking out what I can wear that day is fun and lets me experiment with different clothing pieces to create new outfts.”

Sara Amar ’19 views fashion as self expression. “I also just think fashion is an art form so it’s important to keep it around because art is what makes us human, and fashion is a uniquely human phenomenon. I think clothes are super important and I wish people were more sup portive of fashion in general because I feel like among the older generations its viewed as frivolous- that’s why we
have a dress code in the frist place. They don’t see it as an art form or self-expression.”

Tilton and Fulginiti further explained why they think fashion is so important in the life of a Hopkins student. “What you wear has the ability to shape your confdence and mindset for the day, so we do believe it plays a big role in students’
lives. What we have found is that fashion, specifcally the discussion of fashion, has brought students from different grades together. Building the Hopkins community is particularly exciting for us!”
