Chloé Glass: Perfect Polo Player

Chloé Glass '17, a captain of Hopkins Girls Water Polo, has been playing since ninth grade. Already a Varsity swimmer, Glass decided to “give [water polo] a try,” but immediately saw the sport’s grueling challenges. “The first week was pretty rough,” Glass said.

After three years in the pool, Glass has become a dominant force. “Chloe is a very good defender,” Elrick stated. “[She has] good instincts on when to press the offensive player real hard, when to back off, when the opportunity is there to steal the ball. Chloe is very physical, which is exactly what you want.”

Although Glass prefers defense, she is also strong on offense. In the season opener against Loomis Chafee, she scored fve times in a 17-3 victory. “Chloe is a driver,” Elrick said. “When we have [possession], she drives toward the middle of the goal looking for the ball.”

Glass’s teammates and coach were quick to praise their captain for her leadership. Lien Har ’19 stated, “Chloe is a very experienced player. As captain, she is a strong leader. Chloe cares about the improvement of everyone on the team.” Elrick noted, “She takes charge of the pregame warmup. [She’s] very good at organization, getting the group started, getting them through warmup. [Glass and Co-Captain Katherine Larsen ’17] command a lot of respect.”

Georgia Doolittle ’18 praised Glass: “Chloe brings a driven and passionate attitude to practice, and it is contagious! [She] is a ferce player and she greatly contributes to our cohesive spirit as a team.” This team camaraderie is something that Glass herself has enjoyed: “Water polo has become kind of my home. The girls on the team are really where I feel very comfortable and it’s probably one of the things I love most at Hopkins.”

Glass has high hopes for the team in her fnal season at Hopkins: “Ideally, I would love to reach New Englands. Whether or not that happens I’m really looking forward to leaving everyone with a strong foundation.”

Although this will be her last season as a Hilltopper, Glass plans to play for the Yale women’s club team next fall.
